To get a realistic idea of the geometry and scale of the Modular Dynamic Layered Residences (MDLR) I created a digital model representing one of the countless possible compositions of modules.

This extension of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec clearly explains the spatial composition as resulting from the idea of exposed structure which I will be attempting to ascertain in my ferry terminal design

In developing an understanding of the site, parameters have emerged and ignited the process of conceptualisation. The residential component of this design has been influenced by:

-existing long term residences in New Farm and Fortitude Valley

-opportunity for short term residences

-river, cliffs, historical elements, story bridge,

-opportunity to emphasise and enhance these elements

-retain integrity through tectonics, form, shape, place, culture, spatial configuration

-open, public, centralised spaces

-opportunity to develop shared social spaces

Ferry terminal exemplar

Site investigations exposed the opportunity to develop a high use public transport node, the ferry terminal to be developed will be extended from the following:

-multiple boarding platforms

-interesting spatial experience

-relationship with existing tectonics

-continuation of existing ferry terminal archetype

-flexibility in response to tidal, solar and usage intensity variations

-long term/short term

-linear/cyclic
